Knight Writer Writing Prompt

Like to write or want to improve your writing? It can be hard coming up with ideas, so check out Knight Writer every week. We feature creative writing prompts and story starters for fiction and non-fiction styles of writing using a story, ad, photo or other feature in the Denver Post .

Each worksheet refers you to the appropriate page in the newspaper, asks pertinent questions and then gives a writing topic. The "Order of the Pen" at the bottom of each page offers suggestions to help you improve your writing.

Read "Spoiled system" about the factors that influence what we eat. Then write a description of a favorite healthy food and explain how to prepare it.

August 29, 2010: In concert...
Read about music planned for "A Taste of Colorado." Then write a description of your current favorite musician, explaining why you like the music.

August 22, 2010: Wild West...
Read an article about Wyoming, then write a short story in the first person in which you describe a typical day living in Colorado before cars, phones or even plumbing.

August 15, 2010: Happy New Year...
Read several articles about the new school year, then write about what you have done to get ready for the first day of school.
