Feb. 1, 2012: Celebrity for a Day
The Mini Page is a syndicated, four-page tabloid written for young children found each Wednesday in The Denver Post. Activities:
1. Divide a piece of paper into two columns. On one side, paste newspaper pictures or words of items you would use if there were six more weeks of winter. On the other side, paste pictures/words of things you would use if spring came.
2. In the newspaper, circle words or pictures of animals that hibernate.
3. Ask family members and friends for stories they have heard about predicting weather. Make a list of their ideas.
4. Why are these important to the groundhog: (a) burrows, (b) claws, (c) berries and (d) Punxsutawney?
5. Create a new weather legend. Write a story about how an animal predicts a weather event.
